Local Government Officials

The list below provides links for contacting government officials in the City of Seattle and Eastside communities.

Seattle City Council

The Seattle City Council must approve the Magnuson Park plan before construction can begin. The issue is expected to work its way through the council starting in early February 2004. [Over the past decade, the Seattle City Council has passed several resolutions directly related to the design of Magnuson Park, as well as several resolutions of a broader nature that affect Magnuson Park design—click here to view the resolutions].

Write to members of the City Council encouraging them to:

  1. Exercise their option to vote against the lighted sports field complex at Magnuson Park, and
  2. Instruct the Mayor to undertake a needs analysis of current usage of sports fields by individual sport and the need for expensive new lighted and artificial turf fields in Seattle, and
  3. If a need is clearly demonstrated, instruct the Mayor to explore alternative sites for all or part of the lighted fields, and
  4. Instruct the Mayor and the Parks Department to achieve a more balanced approach to the use of Magnuson Park that emphasizes environmental stewardship and maintenance of the quality of life for both park users and neighborhoods.
