The Seattle City Council must approve the Magnuson Park plan before construction can begin. The issue is expected to work its way through the council starting in early February 2004. Mayor Greg Nickels is a strong proponent of the Magnuson Park lighted field mega-complex.
The Seattle Parks Department developed the Magnuson Park fields plan.
The Seattle Board of Park Commissioners is a citizen’s advisor board to the Seattle Parks Department, the Mayor, and the City Council. The King County government does not have dominion over Magnuson Park. However, it can exert political pressure on Seattle.
The City of Kirkland does not have dominion over Magnuson Park. However, Kirkland council members can exert political pressure on Seattle.
